Free Community CPR Training

Every year nearly 295,000 people suffer sudden cardiac arrest in the United States. Only 7-8% survive. This is more than the number who die from AIDS, Alzheimer’s, firearms, breast cancer, colon cancer, fires, motor vehicle accidents, prostate cancer and suicides combined. Why is survival such a rare thing? The problem is largely a lack of awareness and basic training on the part of the public and even some health professionals. It doesn’t have to be this way.

To better serve our community the Roaring Fork Fire Rescue Authority is proud to offer free CPR courses. The American Heart Association Heartsaver CPR/AED class is a classroom, video-based, instructor-led course that teaches adult CPR and AED use, child CPR and AED use and infant CPR. The course also covers how to relieve choking. This course teaches skills with AHA’s research-proven Practice-While-Watching (PWW) technique, which allows instructors to observe the students, provide feedback and guide the students’ learning of skills.

A typical course runs approximately 3 hours. A breakdown is as follows:
Introduction (15 minutes)
Adult CPR AED (1 hour )
Child CPR & AED (30 minutes)
Infant CPR (Approx 1 hr)
Course Wrap-Up & Testing (30 minutes)

The Heartsaver CPR/AED course includes a certification card from the American Heart Association that is valid for two years.

Please email rcornelius@roaringforkfire.org with any questions. Our courses are designed for individual enrollment of residents and workers of Snowmass Village, Basalt and El Jebel. If you have a group needing CPR training, please email us for details on how to setup a private course.
